Walmart follows closely behind MINNEAPOLIS -- Target is continuing its city-by-city remodeling of stores with a focus on expanded grocery sections -- this time around home turf of Minneapolis, where it's already the No. 2 grocer. This summer, Target is adding its P-Fresh grocery section to nearly all of its traditional stores in the Twin Cities area, according to the Pioneer Press newspaper. Similar revamps are occurring in cities across the country.

CEO Schultz outlines plan integrating grocery store business with cafes SEATTLE -- Starbucks Corp. will focus growth in the next year on CPG sales, using its traditional cafes as a testing ground to propel that growth. In an internal memo released to executives last week, CEO Howard Schultz outlined a plan that would leverage the company's retail stores to build up grocery products, such as Via instant coffee, which has netted the company over $100 million in US sales. Schultz further alluded to plans to drive coffee-shop customers to supermarkets and bring supermarket shoppers into its coffee shops through Starbucks' rewards program. "We will reward customers who buy Starbucks products in the grocery store with opportunities to get rewards in our stores and vice versa," Schultz said in an interview with The Wall Street Journal. "That's a sea change in our ability to integrate these two channels of distribution."
